The Football Federation Australia is changing the way that children between the Ages of 5 and 12 years old play Soccer.
While we have only been provided with minimal information and certainly nothing that can be given to Players and/or Parents, the following information was found on the FFA, Football NSW & Nepean District websites.

Small sided games have been seen as the next big thing in the round ball game in Australia and this has shown with the recent participation of a massive 17 associations from across NSW for 2008.
Blacktown, Canterbury (4 clubs only), Dubbo, Eastern Suburbs, Eurobodalla, Far South Coast, Gladesville-Hornsby, Granville, Ku-Ring-Gai, Lachlan, Mitchell, Nepean, North West Sydney Womens, Orange, St George, Wagga Wagga and Sutherland associations have all responded to piloting small sided games in various age groups for 2008 in their respected areas.
Small-sided games have been seen as a key initiative of the National Football Development Plan and players, clubs, associations and Football NSW in conjunction with the FFA will see the benefits of SSG in providing opportunity for:
*more fun and individual enjoyment due to smaller fields and simplified rules
*more playing time, which maximises individual participation and involvement
*far more repeated touches of the ball by all players on the field
*more shots on goal
*more involvement leading to greater improvement in fitness
Australian technical director Rob Baan was very impressed with the objectives small-sided games offered to young Australian footballers.
“Small-sided games is about learning, self experiencing, having a lot of touches on the ball and above all, as David Beckham said recently: “a lot of FUN!.”
In Nepean district in 2008, the new concept will be trialled by under 6,7,8 age groups. Our under 9 teams will play on a full size field in a non competition 11 v 11 environment. This is in stark contrast to the central theme of SSG, however, it coincided with our own internal changes and this is a good compromise for season 2008 only.
